Summary:  Reporting to the President and CEO of the Port of New Orleans, Executive Counsel serves as the Chief Legal Officer to the Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans and its subsidiary, the New Orleans Public Belt Corporation (NOPBC).  He or she supervises the Legal Services Department and works closely in a monitoring capacity with the Board’s Secretariat, approving the notices, agendas, resolutions and minutes of the public meetings of the Port and NOPBC.
 
Location: New Orleans, LA
 
Required Qualifications & Experience: At least ten years’ experience practicing law with at least five years with maritime related or direct port experience being highly desirable. Experience managing a staff of attorneys is required.  Preference will be given to candidates with the following experience:  Understanding of Federal Maritime Commission regulations; railroad or transportation industry; Public Private Partnerships; claims litigation management with in-house and external attorneys; governmental bond issuance; governmental affairs; governmental operations (open meetings laws, public records requests, etc.)

 
Minimum Education Required: Juris Doctor (JD) and active law license required.  Attorneys not licensed in Louisiana must commit to passing the Louisiana bar exam within an agreed upon time frame.
